❓ Travel Clinic – Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How far in advance should I get travel vaccinations?
A: We recommend booking your travel consultation at least 6 to 8 weeks before departure, as some vaccines require multiple doses or take time to become fully effective. However, we also offer last-minute travel vaccines for short-notice trips.
Q2: Can I get all the vaccines I need in one visit?
A: In most cases, yes. Many vaccines can be given at the same time. Our pharmacist will review your travel plans and medical history to determine the safest and most effective schedule.
Q3: How do I know which vaccines I need for my trip?
A: During your appointment, we’ll perform a Travel Health Risk Assessment based on:
- Your destination(s)
- Length of stay
- Activities you plan to do
- Your vaccination history and medical background
We’ll then recommend the most appropriate vaccinations and travel health advice.
Q4: Do you offer Yellow Fever vaccinations and certificates?
A: Yes — if Beacon Pharmacy is a Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre, we can administer the vaccine and issue the International Certificate of Vaccination (ICVP) required for travel to some countries.
(If not currently a YFVC, this answer can be updated accordingly.)
Q5: Do I need malaria tablets? Can I get them from you?
A: We’ll assess whether antimalarial medication is needed based on your destination and length of stay. If required, we can supply malaria tablets directly after a consultation — no GP appointment needed.
Q6: Do you vaccinate children and teenagers?
A: Yes, we vaccinate children aged 1 year and older, depending on the vaccine. We’ll advise on what’s suitable based on age, destination, and risk level.
Q7: How much do travel vaccines cost?
A: Our prices are highly competitive and include the consultation, vaccine administration, and any certificates required. For a list of prices, click here to view our travel vaccine costs.
Q8: Will I get a certificate for my vaccines?
A: Yes. For vaccines that require certification (e.g. Yellow Fever, Meningitis ACWY for Hajj/Umrah), we’ll issue an official vaccination certificate at your appointment.
Q9: Can I walk in, or do I need to book?
A: We recommend booking an appointment online or by phone to guarantee availability — but walk-ins may be accepted depending on the day.
Q10: Is the travel clinic service private or NHS-funded?
A: Travel vaccinations are typically a private service in the UK. Some basic vaccines like tetanus or MMR may be available via the NHS, but most (including hepatitis A/B, typhoid, rabies, etc.) are only available privately.
